The news media have themselves become the story during the current economic downturn. Ad revenues remain depressed almost across the board, and newsroom staffs have been reduced dramatically and repeatedly. It’s a difficult time for our contacts in the media, and it can be difficult for us when we’re trying to arrange publicity or coverage. On Sept. 8, three Birmingham newsroom veterans will share their perspectives on the situation and offer advice for PR practitioners working in this new reality. Our panel will include Julius White, a reporter for Cox Radio’s Birmingham-area stations; Virginia Martin, government and politics editor for the Birmingham News, and Lantz Croft, assistant news director for Fox 6.
