The First Amendment, Freedom of the Press & the Future of Journalism
9-11 a.m. Oct. 3
SEC Headquarters
2201 Richard Arrington Blvd. N.
The National Press Club, the world's leading professional organization for journalists, along with the Chamber and the Alabama Chapter of Public Relations Society of America are teaming up to look at the future of the news media and how to protect its core values Oct. 3. Panelists are:
Ken Booth, Editor-in-Chief, Al.com
Matt Bunker, University of Alabama Journalism School
James Finch, News Director, Fox 6
Tom Scarritt, Editor, Birmingham News
Moderator: Gil Klein, National Press Club Centennial Project Director
The forum is part of a nationwide conversation the National Press Club is holding during its 100th anniversary to look at where the news business is going and what news consumers should be demanding.
Each event begins with a preview of the Club's centennial documentary, "A Century of Headlines," which follows the history of American journalism through the lens of one of its leading institutions. Since its founding in 1908, the National Press Club has been at the center of key events by offering newsmakers a neutral venue to express their views to the news media. Everyone who attends this forum will get a copy of the documentary. To RSVP for this free event, email Melanie Davis at mdavis@birminghamchamber.com.
